The Trump of the USA

History In The Making

I watched, like many people, history being made as Donald Trump was voted as President of the USA. Many looked on in disbelief. A few of us saw this coming. For me it was obvious. What interesting times we live in!

Donald Trump is a sign of our times. Someone like him was bound to come along and upset the cart. Many things are going to be said about the last 24 hours and the last 18 months. But really this story goes back long before that. It started when the way the president was elected was changed. It started when the politicians decided to make politics their career. It started when politicians started serving themselves rather than serving the people who elected them, who trusted them. And Donald Trump is the man who was made for such a time as this, whether he knows, likes it or understands it.

There will probably be some soul searching and big questions asked. It is doubtful if the right questions will be asked. The system needs to be broken some more before it can be fixed. Like with Europe, the US system is full of bureaucrats who are very good at looking after themselves and will resist change like no other.

Message to other countries

What message does this election send to the world, send to the leaders, the “establishment” of the other countries looking on?

  1. You don’t need to be a politician to be elected the head of a country. If Mr Trump can do it, so can many others.

  2. The people can and do speak.

I’ve heard a politician say there is democracy because you have a vote. This is rubbish. The people of Zimbabwe have a vote. The main difference between here (Australia) and Zimbabwe is that we get to choose our dictator. In the UK they went down the democratic process with the Brexit vote. It was closer to the original definition of democracy. The people spoke. However, those who didn’t like the result say that representational democracy should prevail. Well, it did, the MP’s voted 6:1 for the plebiscite and to follow it. And now its going to court… talk about sore losers.
This reminds me of a country some years ago asked for some financial help, to receive the funding they had to put in place a democratic process. Which they did and they received the funding. Shortly after, they took a vote on whether to keep democracy or go back to their old way. The old way won! Democracy was vote out!
In the USA, democracy won in spite of the process to thawte it.

  1. The politician ignores the people at their peril: the workers, the poor, the people who are the foundation of the country, the people who the rich and powerful rely upon to keep them there, they hold the real power.

  2. That sometimes irony will play a big part. In the USA, it took a very rich and wealthy man to defeat the most powerful – who are also rich. How? He didn’t have to cow down to anyone. He owed no-one anything.

  3. With Donald Trump, the people took what he said with flexibility but took him seriously, the media and the establishment took what he said literally, but didn’t take him seriously. A serious mistake.

Update

I originally wrote this sometime ago. Now I going to add some more as I’ve seen a lot of comment. And this is my comment on Mr Trump and the comments.

Most of the comments in the media are from people expecting Mr Trump to act presidential. Unless I’m very much mistaken, the office of the president is a political office. Mr Trump does not, and I presume wish, to act as a politician. He is not going to act presidential. It is not him. He is Donald Trump and he’ll behave as only he knows how, and that is to be Donald Trump.

As for his selection for other offices, well, some make sense. So there is a guy who seems to be friendly with Mr Putin. If you’re going to do deals with someone, wouldn’t you like someone on your side who knows the other party? Just a thought. Oh, and the other thing about Mr Trump, is he is a business man, and that is how I see him “running” the “USA Plc”.

And as to the future. Only God knows. However I will say this. I think Mr trump is going to be good for the USA and the world in the long run. He’ll either get it right, and others will follow, or he’ll get it so wrong that the only way will be up! Before the election I thought it would be the later. Now I’m not so sure but I’m still leaning that way. Mr Trump has an opportunity to do something amazing, I hope the politicians don’t get in his way with their own agendas.

I’d love your comments below. Keep it civil.
